Waterford Valley High News
The schedule and form to apply for Public Exam supplementaries has been released. Please click here to access the form. Note that all forms are due at the Dept of Education on or before August 1st.
Please note that students who missed the English 3201 Listening component can write that component during the August Exams. The Listening component is scheduled for the afternoon of August 11, 2016 at a location to be announced. A June mark will be on their transcript and will be based on 100% (listening component will have a value of zero). If the student writes the listening component in August, the June mark will be adjusted. If the student chooses not to write the August Supplementary the June mark will stand. A deferral form should be completed for these students and please indicate listening component only on the form. It should also be noted that if a student writes the English 3201 exam in August, as a supplementary, they will be required to write the listening component as well.
Any student that missed the English 1201 or 2201 Listening Component should check with their English teacher to see if this can be made up before the end of the year.

We are approaching the final exam periods for our high school students and we thought it would be good to highlight some of the resources available for review and practice in mathematics as well as other subjects. We specifically are focusing upon the District Moodle site and YouTube channel, along with CDLI.

The school has developed a brochure to help explain to students and parents about attendance procedures at Waterford Valley High. One issue that we have been noticing is that some parents try to excuse their children and not provide a reason, or a reason that is not deemed valid by the school.
We understand that sometimes students have valid reasons to be absent or late for school. This is called an “excused” absence. Parents must provide a reason to the school when their child is going to be absent or late. It should be noted that only a school can decide if an absence is authorized.
Some accepted reasons are:
Child’s illness or injury
Death of a family member
Doctor or dental appointment that cannot be scheduled before or after school hours
Weather— a parent may excuse a child from school even if school is open due to weather
