Waterford Valley High is excited to share with you information about our upcoming Mental Health & Wellness Week,
May 1st – 4th, 2017. Students, parents/guardians and staff at Waterford Valley High recognize that there are many people dealing with mental health and wellness concerns in our schools and across the country. Throughout the week, WVH students will be provided with information from people with expertise in many facets of Mental Health & Wellness, as well as opportunities to learn about effective strategies and activities to help manage everyday life. The more we know and talk about mental health and wellness – the better able we are to help our youth.
One of our key events is the WVH student production of Not Myself Today (NMT), with an evening production at WVH on Monday May 1 at 7:30. Everyone is invited!! Not Myself Today is a play about teen mental health, written and directed by Courtney Fowler, local actress and owner/operator of Courtney Fowler Voice Studio. Justin Nurse, WVH Theatre Arts teacher and local actor & singer, has also had significant involvement in assisting our students with this production. This is a powerful play about teen depression & anxiety, performed by WVH students. Our Music & Art students, under the leadership of Susan Evoy and Leanne Ward, are also involved through song & poster design.
This initiative has been made possible through the support of the ArtsSmarts program, funded by DEECD, NLTA, Statoil, and ArtsNL.We kindly ask that you share this information about the WVH student production Not Myself Today with your school community. We hope to fill our gymnasium! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Glenda Jackson, Ms. Kara Bourgeois, or Ms. Katrina Vanta, WVH, 745-6264. Thank you in advance for your continued support!
